Some of our new cavachon owners have told me that they are taking their new puppy to puppy classes at Pets Mart. I think that is a great idea and fun to interact with others while everyone train's their puppies. It also gives your puppy social skills on how to act when with other dogs and people. It is good to take your puppy out and get him accustomed to new places and sights and sounds. Since I shop at Pets Mart myself, I take my dogs or puppies with me, they get lots of attention and the outing is good for them. However, do wait until all of your puppy shots have been given. They recommend that you not take puppies out in public until they have had their series of shots, so check with your vet about the proper time. The more things that you teach your puppy, the more your bond will grow and the more fun you will have together. A well trained dog is a joy to own, and they enjoy the praise and learning, they are eager to please and it makes them very happy to be doing things with you.
I myself have taken my dog to obedience class and to an obedience show. It is very rewarding to train your dog. I have books about training by top obedience trainer Winifred Strickland. I love her books, she says in her book that obedience training is one of the best things that you can do for your dog..
One of the most asked questions that I receive from my new puppy owners, is what is the best way to house train the puppy. House training is the first thing the puppy must learn, I will put some suggestions on this page for house training and other things that I hope you will find helpful. Cavachon's are smart little dogs and training has been very easy for them.
Also those that are signed up for obedience classes will be adding some tips too. Their imput will make this page fun and helpful. If your puppy has been going to obedience school be sure and let me know so we can add your imput.....
